Many Christians do spiritual battle with a dull sword
See also: Dr. Hugh Ross; putting a ‘?’ where God placed a ‘.’ The Big Picture I will make the point up-front that although I disagree with many of my Christian brothers and sisters on the issue of compromising with evolutionism, I still consider them to be my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ. I can think of a few “old earth” creationists I have known who are giving their hearts and souls to our Lord in service to Him. So I am asking my fellow Christians to understand that what I say in the paragraphs to follow, I say in a spirit of love. Also, I don’t believe that the issue of creation versus evolutionism should be a litmus test to become a Christian, or to be considered a “good” Christian. However, I don’t want to minimize the seriousness of this issue by leaving the impression that this is a side-issue or that it’s not that important. The Christian compromises with evolutionism are one of the most important issues facing Christians today. Many Christians today have been the victims of their public school educations. In some cases, even private Christian schools have given in to the pressures of conforming to evolutionism rather than to take God at his Word that he “created” the universe in six literal days. Note that there is nothing in the Bible about God having a stuttering or drooling problem when he speaks so as to cause this spoken creation process to drag on for millions of years. His spoken word caused instantaneous results. He didn’t need to take six days. He could have taken six seconds. Read How long is a “day” in the Bible for more information about why he dragged the process out as long as long as He did (six days), and why He rested on the seventh Day when God is someone who doesn’t need rest. The compromises Christians have made with evolutionism include such things as progressive creationism, theistic evolution, the day-age theory and the “gap” theory to name a few. One of the most prominent promoters of some of these compromises is Dr. Hugh Ross. We suspect that one reason why some lay person Christians have been so easy to mislead on this issue is because they often lack a proper understanding of how to go about interpreting the Bible. Based on our past experiences, it appears that hermeneutics (principals for Bible interpretation) are not taught in many churches (we’ve only seen one church teach it in 20 years). As a result, Christians who have little training in this area not adequately prepared to interpret what the Bible actually has to say on the issue of creation. Their approach towards Bible interpretation is often one of eisegesis instead of exegesis, and they are much more easily misled. Look at what Roy B. Zuck had to say about why hermeneutics are so important on page 10 of his book titled Basic Bible Interpretation. Another reason Christians are misled is because many of them are not be aware that God gave us specific warnings about evolution in prophecies. See our Warning from God about Evolution link for details. Many Christians today have been also been misled into believing that the creation/evolution debate is a side issue. See Evolution or Creation: What difference does it make? and 10 dangers of theistic evolution for just some of the reasons why this is one of the most important issues facing Christians today. For those who wish to know more about this, see the video The Genesis Solution, the book the Lie : Evolution, or the book Creation Evangelism for the Mew Millennium. In 2 Timothy, God tells us that we need to be concerned about correctly interpreting his Word: Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. II Timothy 2:15 In Ephesians, God explains why correct interpretation is so important: And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Ephesians 6:17 The compromises of theistic evolution, progressive creationism and others are based upon faulty interpretations of scripture. As a result, those who hold these beliefs are fighting a powerful enemy with a dull sword. We encourage our Christian brothers and sisters to carefully consider the compelling evidence that exists against these compromises and to rethink their positions on them so that they may benefit from “the whole armor of God”. |
